Stamping on DSP

Hello. My name is Phoebe and I'm a recovering paper-hoarder. I love all of my beautiful designer series paper so much that I felt like I was wasting it by using it! I know, crazy! Anyway as part of my steps to recovery, I have resolved to actually USE my beautiful papers...to turn them into beautiful cards rather than just staring at them as they gather dust on my shelf!

So I took out some of my DSPs...mostly the abstract/background-looking ones...and looked for inspiration. And then it struck me! What if I used a background stamp on a background DSP?! Better yet, heat-emboss it with Copper embossing powder. So I set out to try this with my Breathtaking Bouquet stamp and boy, what a result! I loved the look so much that I decided to try it out on various DSPs from the See a Silhouette and Lily Impressions DSP packs. Here are the results:

This first card was made using a piece of Lily Impressions DSP. The darker tinges in the paper was a bit too much for the embossed images, so I decided to cover it up with a piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock that I die-cut using the Detailed Bands Dies. I sponged the middle piece with Pretty Peacock and stamped my sentiment from the Sending You Thoughts stamp set, covered it in Wink of Stella for shimmer and finally adhering it with dimensionals. This whole piece was backed onto a mat piece of Bermuda Bay and then adhered to my Whisper White card base.

This beautiful teal DSP is from Lily Impressions DSP again. The die cut pieces are from the Christmas special Roses Dies, on a piece of Copper foil sheet. The sentiment is from Sending You Thoughts stamp set, stamped on a piece of Coastal Cabana cardstock using Pretty Peacock ink. My mat piece is another sheet of Coastal Cabana, and my card base is Whisper White.

This DSP is from See a Silhouette DSP. I added pieces of Copper foil sheet for accent, and the sentiment is from First Frost stamp set, which I copper heat-embossed on a strip of Night of Navy cardstock. My mat piece is Night of Navy as well, and my card base is Whisper White.

This last card was made using another piece of See a Silhouette DSP. I wanted the vibrant paper and embossing to be the main feature, so I put my sentiment piece off to the side. I cut out a piece of Crushed Curry cardstock using my 2" Circle Punch, sponged the borders with Terracotta Tile ink, stamped my sentiment from Sending You thoughts in Tuxedo black Memento ink, then added some Champagne Rhinestone jewels. I added a piece of Poppy Parade cardstock die-cut using the retired Doily Builder Dies, sponged with Memento ink and finally inked with some Wink of Stella. I used Poppy Parade for my mat piece and Basic Black card base.

I love this look so much! The bouquet stamp and the DSPs alone are already pretty, but put together, it was just a perfect combination in my opinion. It's perfect for making simple cards...all you need to add is your sentiment. Quick and easy cards, now who doesn't want that!

A Card for all types of Crafters

Hello and Happy New Year!!! It has been a while since my last post, the holidays just got a little too hectic. And with all of my holiday projects, my craft room was just such a disaster that even I was scared to step inside it! So what better excuse to clean up my craft room and start creating again than having my big order from the new catalogue arrive, right?!

Before I start playing with my new products though, I wanted to play with the beautiful First Frost bundle. And since I have been out of the loop for quite a while I decided to make three cards today, one for every type of crafter...the beginner, casual and avid crafters. Let's get started!

THE BEGINNER CRAFTER

Here's for the new stampers, or for people who just want to make simple and quick cards due to time constraints. Simple stamping is a fun way to get people started in card-making. For my card I used a Whisper White card base and stamped my images using four different inks...Rich Razzleberry, Crushed Curry, Lemon Lime Twist and Granny Apple Green. I then stamped my sentiment in black Memento ink to make it stand out. And that is all there is to this card, how quick and simple was that?! 

THE CASUAL CRAFTER

Now to step up my simple stamping card, all I did was add layers. I stamped my images exactly the same way as my first card except that my sentiment is now white heat embossed on a piece of Rich Razzleberry cardstock and cut using my Tailored Tag punch before being adhered to the card using dimensionals. This whole piece was then layered on top of a Rich Razzleberry cardstock, and then onto the card base.

THE AVID CRAFTER

This one's for the crafter who wants to make more intricate and detailed projects. I kept the design similar, but for this card I used the coordinating Frosted Bouquet Framelits and die-cut my images. I wanted my flowers to have a more vibrant color so I used my Aqua Painter to spread the ink a bit. This wiped the detailing out of my flowers though so I re-stamped my images in a darker ink, Gray Granite, and I loved the result! I arranged my images on top of a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock that I ran through my Big Shot with the Tin Tile embossing folder. The sentiment was stamped on a Whisper White cardstock with Rich Razzleberry ink, punched out using the same Tailored Tag punch, then sponged with Rich Razzleberry around the edges. I added some Rhinestone jewels and silver metallic thread for embellishment before adhering my card on the Rich Razzleberry mat and then onto the card base. And lastly, I added some Wink of Stella to my flowers for a little shimmer.

Another Twist & Pop Card

So my friend asked me to make a special card for her grandma who's turning 100. I mean, of course I'll do it! But 100, man, that's a very special birthday to say the least! And what do I make for a very special birthday? Well, I turned to my favorite fun-fold, the twist & pop card. So easy to make, and yet it has that POP! For this special card, my friend said anything with purple (her grandma's fave color) and sparkle will do. Perfect! Let's get started!

I decided to use the retired Color Your Season stamp set for my flowers. I know it's not a current set but that doesn't mean I can't make beautiful cards with it. I stamped the big flower bunch with my black ink then clear heat-embossed my images for easier coloring. I used my alcohol markers to color my flowers in then cut my images up.

Next I created my mechanism piece the same way (please refer to tutorial here) and my folding panel (2" x 10") in Whisper White cardstock. I glued down my flower bunches onto my folding panel, making sure to cover as much of my panel as I can. Then I scored the panel at an interval of 2 1/2", effectively dividing my piece into 4 equal panels. Assembly of the twist & pop mechanism is the same as my previous card. I then covered my flowers with Wink of Stella for sparkle then added panels of Highland Heather (3 7/8" x 4 1/8") and Gray Granite cardstock (3 3/4" x 4") to line the inside of my card.

For my card front I wanted to keep it simple. I used First Frost stamp set and stamped on vellum using Gorgeous Grape, then clear heat-embossed my images to prevent smearing of ink. This gave my images a nice shine too, so bonus! I die cut them using the coordinating Frosted Bouquet Framelits Dies and then glued them down onto a piece of Gray Granite cardstock (4" x 5 1/4") that is layered on top of a piece of Highland Heather (4 1/8" x 5 3/8"). 

I used my Cricut to make the 100th on both Highland Heather and gold glimmer paper. I must say that I actually ran out of gold glimmer paper so I made my own using the retired SAB item gold tape and taped over a piece of scrap cardstock. Instant glimmer paper minus the hassle of glitter fallout...works for me! Finally my happy birthday sentiment is from the also retired set We Must Celebrate stamped in Gorgeous Grape.

And that is my special card for today! It is a mix of retired and current items, just whatever I owned that works. I really hope that my friend's grandma likes it, after all, it's not everyday you turn 100!!!
