the Animal card

I was asked to make a card for my co-worker's kid sister. She's five and she'll be undergoing heart surgery, and to help cheer her up we're giving her a card with some words of encouragement. So of course I wanted to create something special for her! This is what I came up with...

I decided to make her a card full of cute animals..something fun! Luckily, we have a whole bunch of stamp sets of these cute critters...Bella and Friends, Hedgehugs, Animal Outing, Party Pandas, Bird Banter, This Little Piggy, A Little Wild, and We Must Celebrate. I used both current and retired sets, stamped all my images, colored them in, then cut them out. Then I created a collage with these cute animals. My background was sponged in four different colors, and my sentiment is from the Healing Hugs stamp set.

And that is today's card. I really hope she'll like it and help her through her recovery! Thanks for stopping by and see ya next time!

Sweet Little Birthday card

I had to make a card for a co-worker's birthday, so I created this sweet little card for such a sweet and thoughtful person! I sure hope she likes it.
I started by sponging a piece of Whisper White cardstock with Flirty Flamingo, Coastal Cabana and So Saffron. Nothing precise, just a quick transfer of color. Then to help blend it all out, I sprayed it generously with good old water. This made the colors soften a bit.
Once completely dry I started with my heat embossing. I used the cute flowers from the stamp set HedgeHugs, one of the sets that I haven't used in a while! I stamped the images using Versamark ink and then silver heat-embossed them. It looks like such a cute DSP don't ya think?!
I then cut out the center with a die from the Layering Circles Framelits, and also a scalloped piece on a piece of So Saffron cardstock for the frame. I layered my art piece on top of a So Saffron mat with the center cut out, and then this was then adhered to my Whisper White card base. Finally I stamped my sentiment from the Special Celebrations set using my Flirty Flamingo ink pad.

For embellishments I used the bird from the beautiful Petal Palette stamp set and stamped it in Gray Granite. I die-cut it using the coordinating die from the Petals & More Thinlits, and also the leaves on a piece of Shaded Spruce cardstock. Finally I added a bow using our Silver Baker's Twine

And that is my card for today. Thanks for dropping by and I hope to see you next time! Happy crafting!

Hedgehugs Mirror Image Technique

Have you ever wished that a stamp was facing the other way instead? Well that's what I wanted to do as soon as I saw the Hedgehugs stamp set...I wish those cute critters were facing the other way too! I have an image in my mind of two hedgehogs facing each other and holding a heart in between...so I had to learn how to do mirror image stamping!

I tried a variety of techniques...from using a piece of window sheet, the flat back of a stamp, to using a stamping material designed for my cutting machine. None of them worked as well as using my embossing mat on my stamp positioning tool. The embossing mat just provided enough cushion and is less slippery than the other materials I tried so there is less chance of smearing.
I enjoyed this technique so much that I made two cards with it! Watch my video tutorial below and see how easy it is to do this technique. I already have another card in mind for using this technique again. Until then, see you next time and have a lovely day crafters!
